This large decking job on the outskirts of Cambridge was quite challenging. The decked area was suspended quite high, so we opted to build the sub-frame incorporating four steel beams for added safety. The cost was partially offset by the fact that less timber was used and there was little need for cross members, which eliminated sideways movement.
We built the gazebo from a kit which didn’t take long to erect and blended in nicely with the rest of the deck, especially after the balustrade was added to the decking.
We then clad the sides of the decking underneath to give a clean backdrop to the planted borders. This also improved the aesthetics of the decking by perfectly concealing the sub-frame.
