Summit Landscapes – Resin Bound Gravel

Summit Landscapes specialise in creating durable, versatile paved surfaces using Resin Bound Gravel.

Resin Bound Gravel mixes together a naturally-derived resin with small coloured stones to form a fully permeable, smooth, strong and hard-wearing surface that is completely free of loose stones.

Why Choose a Resin Driveway?

• Safe & Environmentally Friendly

When rainwater falls on conventional driveway surfaces, such as slabs, concrete or tarmac, it needs to drain away as they are impermeable and allow water to pool on the surface, creating a flood risk and a slip hazard. Our Resin Bound Gravel paving system avoids this problem by being completely water-permeable. Resin Bound Gravel forms tiny gaps between the stones which allow rainwater to quickly and easily pass through and drain straight into the ground underneath.

• Low-Maintenance

Traditional gravel surfaces can get messy and require constant sweeping to keep the stones on the driveway. Resin Driveways create completely smooth, low-maintenance driveways that are ideal for wheelchairs, pushchairs and bicycles.

• Endless Choice of Colours and Finishes

Resin Driveways offer Resin Bound Gravel in a huge range of colours and textures. Please take a look at our Resin Bound Gravel gallery for our full range of aggregates.

What is The Difference Between Resin Bound & Resin Bonded Gravel

Some companies offer a cheaper alternative to Resin Bound Gravel called ‘resin bonded’ gravel. Although it sounds the same, that is where the similarities end and we urge you to be extremely wary of resin bonded surfaces. Resin bonded surfaces lack the durability and permeability of Resin Bound Gravel, are not smooth and free of loose stones like resin Bound Gravel and substandard materials are often used, resulting in discolouration from sunlight.

Resin Bound Gravel is a smooth, water-permeable, SuDs compliant surface, made from a blend of aggregates coated with a clear, UV-stable, natural resin. Every tiny stone is fully coated in resin in a forced-action mixer to form a cold-pour mixture. This mixture is then poured into place and hand-trowelled to ensure a completely smooth, colour-consistent surface with absolutely no loose stones. Due to tiny gaps between the stones, Resin Bound Gravel is completely water permeable and doesn’t allow rainwater to pool anywhere on its surface, minimising flood risks and slip hazards.

Resin Bound Gravel is usually laid to a depth of 16mm for a footpath, patio or pool surround and to a depth of 18mm for driveways and car parks.

Resin Bonded Gravel, in contrast, is not water-permeable or SuDs compliant and must have ‘soakaways’ or drainage channels installed when it is laid, otherwise, it is prone to flooding. Resin Bonded Gravel is created by scattering loose aggregate straight onto the resin that has been poured into place. This method is not nearly as durable as Resin Bound Gravel and the aggregate often comes loose over time, especially when cars are regularly driving, turning and parking on the surface. Depending on the aggregate size, resin bonded gravel is usually laid to a depth of 3mm.
