Swimming Pool Decking & Paving

Summit Landscapes were called in by this client in Little Hallingbury to create a new, contemporary garden to complement their newly renovated swimming pool. The brief was to include a modern space that could be used as an outdoor entertaining area.

Landscape Design

Summit Landscapes produced a line drawing that set out the space into the following areas: sunbathing area, dining area, formal lawn, and an area for planting (that leads out into the rest of the large garden).

We began by excavating the entire 140m² area around the pool with a digger and altered the levels to allow for water runoff. 18m of Aco drains were also installed and connected to a soakaway.

Decking & Paving

We then laid geo-textile membranes to prevent weed growth and constructed two timber subframes for the decking over it. The first was outside the property’s bi-fold doors and the second, larger subframe was constructed between the swimming pool and where the new lawn would sit. Each subframe was fixed with concrete/timber posts that ran 300mm into the ground. 16m² of composite decking was then laid and fixed to each timber subframe.

Summit Landscapes used the digger to create a flat, level area and metal edging was installed along the perimeter to create clean contemporary edges. The area was prepped before high-quality turf was laid to make a new lush lawn.

For the paving, we laid 140m² of clean, silver-grey granite slabs to create a clean and contemporary finish.

Planting Scheme

The planting consisted of Juniperus conifers, large Agav, and Horsetails. The newly turfed lawn was surrounded by a low hedge of Bexus sempervirens and Photina x Fraseri Red Robin pleached trees.
